Sometime around 2006, J acquired a “loop station” and a new kind of composing opened up to him. This track was originally just guitar and clarinet. J would put it on in the background and go about his daily business. At some point he found himself singing the mantra “you better get up” - a line challenging himself to rise to a higher level of seriousness and fortitude with his life.
The song was never meant for public ears until a friend encouraged J to go ahead and add the vocal mantra and put it on the album.
